Sustainability Officer (Climate)

Next to its HQs in Brussels, Belgium, Stanley/Stella has a local Bangladesh Liaison Office (BLO) in Dhaka to facilitate close interactions with the manufacturing partners. In its continuous efforts to improve its sustainability performance, Stanley/Stella wants to decarbonise its value chain. The new Sustainability Officer – Climate will be part of the Sustainability Team of the BLO.
Main responsibilities
  • Organise, collect & validate the data collection of resource consumption & CO2e emissions in the supply chain as well as of BLO office, in line with HQ needs.
  • Facilitate the setting up of agreed carbon reduction plans with suppliers (covering reduction objectives and action items specific to each supplier). This entails working together with suppliers on targets and action plans, but also challenge any existing target and action plan. The primary focus is on Tier 1 (garment) and Tier 2 (fabric) actors, covering CO2e emissions coming from energy, chemicals, waste, packaging use, etc …. Also Tier 3 (yarn) actors may be in scope.
  • Identify further opportunities for carbon reduction that can be proposed to suppliers. This can include elements such as mapping the related activities to undertake the action, the related CapEx and OpEx, the estimated Return on Investment of the item (if present) and the expected carbon reduction impact of the action). 
  • Follow-up the implementation of the agreed carbon reduction action plan (action deployment status tracking as well as capturing the real impact of implemented actions). 
  • Conduct energy audits and periodic energy management meetings/trainings; collect/share best practices through good communication with supply chain partners. 
  • Convey long-term carbon reduction plans with suppliers and ensure legal/regulatory/customer compliance of suppliers regarding energy and carbon emission. 
  • Guide & drive implementations of management systems and technological installations at the suppliers.
  • Monitor, evaluate and drive improvement of overall environmental performances onsite/offsite of suppliers as well as at the BLO.
  • Support specific other projects and HQ/BLO needs with a primary focus on supplier related sustainability performance.
Your profile
  • Genuine, honest and true to the values of sustainability.
  • Minimum 5 years’ work experience, with 2 years’ experience in relevant field.
  • Excellent knowledge in carbon reduction opportunities in textile production environments.
  • Able to present clear, precise and accurate business cases for individual decarbonisation actions to internal management and to suppliers. This includes but not only practical implications on deployment steps and resource needs, mapping out CapEx and OpEx implications, Returns on Investments (where present) as well as expected decarbonisation impact.
  • Solid knowledge for data management and supply chain mapping.
  • Graduation in Environmental Science/Engineering will be added advantage for the positions.
  • Production engineering background or experience is a plus.
  • Analytical predisposition, that enables to see the bigger picture with attention to detail.
  • Convincing and persuasive interpersonal skills vis-à-vis suppliers as well as internal.
  • Fluent in English (vocal & written) & Bengali.
  • Strong teamwork mentality.  
  • Excellent communication both verbal and written, analytical and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexible on working hours, and ability to work under pressure in different projects as per company needs.
